Yesterday San Francisco police announced the arrest of a suspect involved in the shooting of a man in the Bayview area of San Francisco last week.
Anthony Ray, 29, of San Francisco was arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated assault upon the passenger of a streetcar and carrying a loaded firearm.
On February 9, 2017 at approximately 1:56 PM, San Francisco police officers responded to a reported shooting on board a San Francisco Muni Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) near the intersection of 3rd and 22nd streets.
Officers from the Bayview station arrived and found a 22 year-old male resident of San Francisco suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Officers rendered aid until relieved by responding San Francisco Fire Department paramedics. The victim was then transported to the hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
Investigators learned that a witness grabbed the suspect’s gun following the shooting, fought with the suspect for control of the gun, and ended up on the ground outside of the LRV. The suspect lost control of the gun and fled the scene on foot. The weapon and surveillance video were recovered from the scene and the video evidence was integral to the identification of the suspect, police say. Bayview station officers viewed the video and recognized the Ray from prior contacts, and police say he is "known to be associated with" a San Francisco gang so the SFPD Gang Task Force took the the lead in the investigation.
A warrant was issued for Ray’s arrest and on February 14 members of the Bayview station plainclothes team and the Gang Task Force took him into custody, without further incident, at a residence on the 1500 block of Valle Vista in Vallejo, CA. He was booked into the San Francisco County Jail.
